Sundown Fantasy Surfer Club Results After Bells, Parko makes it two in a row and Ibisurf takes the lead
Well, It's seems preordained that Parko is going take the title this year! The script is written and now let's see if Parko can play the role! The controversial single elimination format shook things up and whether you agree with it or not, it proved to be interesting and they did score some pretty filthy waves. Heats of Interest:
Slater vs Wright: Slater went looking for the tube too much and should have focused on the open face. Owen surfed exceptionally well and it seems like maybe it's time for Slater to move on... But wait, Slater at Chopes on his 5'3 is going to be the call! He did it at Pipe! Why not Chopes?
Smith vs Fanning: The cocky Saffa finally has started to shut up and let his surfing do the talking! This kid is going to do some damage this year. He will be a keeper on my picks for the season. Fanning, he wants the title again. He's hungry! But, is he hungry enough to take the title shot away from his best mate! Would you? I didn't think so.
The Three Darkhorses:
CJ Hobbledygood: He's hungry, on his way to divorce court and placed himself nicely within striking distance. With Tahiti coming up: It's game on. Shame his sponsor backed out of Fiji or this race would be considered tighter.
Freddy P: I wonder if I start drinking Budlight I might surf as well on my backhand as Freddy P? I think we might see a solid year from him. He's done well at Tahiti before. Maybe Quiksilver's plan on shrinking it's team might have anything to do with the fire under his arse?
Adam Robertson: Local underground WQS straggler who does good! Good on the kid. Even better is he gave the the surf industry the proverbial "up yours" by wearing a Hollister Hoodie during interviews! Maybe A&F will start sponsoring surfers and become more authentic than the big surf companies? Not bloody likely!
As for the Sundown Fantasy Club Winner for Bells it's Ibisurf who took a very close second at the Quik Pro and has now gone on to take the lead! He had an interesting roster that didn't even include Parko! Crazy! He had smart cheap choices who paid off with consistency. His top performers were: Fanning, a smart choice after his Quik Pro performance, Dingo Morrison, who is looking good but can't seem to get past the quarters, Jordy Smith, this kid is going to win an event this year!, and Kekoa Bacalso: The tank loved the thick walls of bells to match his power surfing. This kid is on a tear and may finally live up to his potential. Nice choices by Ibisurf. Please email me at Tyler@sundownski.com to receive your prize.

Can't get enough Occ?
For those goofy foots who miss real back hand surfing this is a must! It seems like most goofy foots today, surf good but are not raw and powerful. Nothing in the Occy mold at least! Everything is tight and technical. The Hobgoods are smooth and tight but lack a ferocious raw energy. Bobby Martinez again is technical and tight but lacks brute force! Where is the power goofy foot of this era? I haven't seen anyone really lay commitment onto a rail like Occ in years! The last person to hold up was Luke Egan! Watch and learn!

Sundown Fantasy Surfer Group: Congrats to GMGsurfer for taking out the win!, Parko goes berzerko at the Quiksilver Pro!!!
Parko Scored a perfect 10 in his semi and then his final! His surfing was nothing short of inspiring and I would have to say he is going to be the pick for the title this year. His surfing all through the event was nothing short of awe inspiring! In his Round Four Heat, he came back with a sick pick in the dying seconds of the comp! He then did it again in his Semi against Mick Fanning! Parko showed true determination and will be the one to watch. The disappointment for everyone had to be Slater. I think everyone had him on their teams. His 5'4 looked pretty sick but seemed to hold him back slightly. The big surprise of the event was Adriano De Souza! The kid shouldn't be a surprise since last year's steady climb but his domination of Taj in Semi 2 was nothing short of brilliant. And how about Dane and Jordy! Both surfed insane early on but Jordy couldn't find a decent wave in his heat and Dane was ripped off! He caught the sickest barrel at the end of his heat against Taj but the judges way underscored it. Check out Stabmag.com for the full story on that. In the Final, it looked like Adriano just couldn't find the rhythm he needed and Parko just looked comfortable and relaxed. He got those back to back barrels that the announcers couldn't get enough of and kep showing them over and over in slow motion. For an event that started out slow, it finished with a bang.
On the Sundown Fantasy Surfer group side of things, it was GMGsurfer who took out the win with a team consisting of:
Kelly Slater
Mick Fanning
Damien Hobgood
Dean Morrison
David Weare
Julian Wilson
Jordy Smith
Dane Reynolds
Slater was everyone's pick and you can see most people's numbers are lower than they would have been had they gone with Parko. The rest of the top five on Sundown's Fantasy Surfer Group goes like:
2nd-ibisurf (So close! Only 2 points separated them)
3rd-Sundown (What can I say?)
4th- NYRippa (Last Years Overall champ and still a danger man)
5th- I don't have a name (couldn't think of a name but got it right with the teams)
So if GMGSurfer would please stand up and send your contact info in order to win your prize, to tyler@sundownski.com.
Bells is up next and we will have to wait and see if Slater will be motivated to attend. Parko loves Bells and should continue his form.
Thanks everyone and see you at the next event.

Sundown's Fantasy Surfer Club Champ Crowned!, Doug "NYRippa" Milstein Reigns Supreme As Fantasy Surfer Champ
Doug Milstein was all smiles when he came into Sundown Surf Shop this winter to collect his bounty. Doug had just finished at the top of the Inaugural Sundown Fantasy Surfer Club Year End Ratings and is now crowned the Sundown Fantasy Surf Club Champ! He walked away with a sweet Quiet Flight 5'11" Squash and Two, count them, two FREE Roundtrip tickets to Puerto Rico on Jet Blue. Who wouldn't have a grin ear to ear?
Doug's consistency on the Fantasy Surfer Tour earned him the win but he also placed well within the top 500 of the overall Surfer Magazine Fantasy Surfer Group, which is huge considering there are over 20,000 participants! Doug had his teams picked for every comp and was on top of it when it counted most, especially in Brazil where almost half of the top 16 were no shows and everyone who wasn't paying attention had have their teams not counted. Obviously Slater was the main pick for everyone's team but the important picks were the lower rung guys who were cheap to purchase for teams. Doug was right on the money for almost every event. Pipe was his crowning Victory and was probably the one event that a lot of people may not have chosen Slater as their top pick. Doug stayed with his tried and true and clinched it. A special note: Slater's surfing at the 2008 Pipe Masters was BullS--t!! Riding a 5'10 in 6-8ft Pipe! That had to be one of the most enjoyable Pipe Masters to watch! IT was also sick to see Wardo break into the finals again.
Below are some picks The Champ and his new board! The World Tour begins in a couple of weeks. Slater is gunning for 10! The Sundown Fantasy Surf Club will be closing it's doors once the events starts. If you want to have a go at the Sundown Fantasy Surf Club this year, join now because after the second event at Bells, no new members will be able to join! Prizes and the Preview will be released soon. Stay tuned. Congrats to Doug Milstein for killing it this year. The guy is one of the nicest and coolest guys out there. Thank you to everyone who participated in Sundown's Fantasy Surfer Club. We were stoked on everyone's participation and hope to make it bigger next year.
Cheers,
Seppo1
